Our client, a rapidly growing insurance broker focused on Personal and Commercial Lines P&C Insurance is seeking an Accounting Manager in New York City or Virginia Beach, VA.

Our client has over 200 employees and operates in all 50 states.

They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead their accounting operations, with a focus on insurance brokerage accounting. This role will manage all financial functions including the maintenance of accounting records, preparation of financial reports, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. They will play a key role in managing client/carrier receivables and payables, commission reconciliations, trust accounting, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage general accounting functions: accounts payable, cash management, and general ledger.
  • Supervise daily accounting operations for P&C insurance brokerage: premium billing, cash applications, client receivables, and carrier payables.
  • Ensure compliance with fiduciary/trust accounting standards and laws.
  • Reconcile broker commissions, overrides, and contingent income against carrier statements.
  • Lead the monthly close process, including revenue recognition, accruals, and intercompany allocations.

  • Partner with other departments to deliver financial insights that support business decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within an insurance brokerage
  • 3–4 years in a leadership or managerial role
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks.
  • Proficiency in accounting/ERP software (e.g., NetSuite, Sage).
  • Applied EPIC experience required; EZLynx experience is a plus
