Sr or VP, Benefits Compliance Counsel – Rapidly Growing PE-backed Insurance Broker (REMOTE)

About the Company
Our client is one of the 25 largest insurance brokerages in the U.S., with a national network of partner agencies and a fast-growing employee benefits practice. They are adding a senior benefits attorney to their corporate legal team to serve as the organization’s go-to compliance resource.

The Role
Reporting to the General Counsel, this attorney will advise producers, agency teams, and clients on employee benefits compliance while building the training and content that keeps the organization ahead of regulatory change. It’s a highly visible, advisory role, and it can be structured at the Senior Counsel or Vice President level depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Counsel clients, producers, and agency personnel on health and welfare plan compliance, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125, and related federal and state requirements
  • Design and deliver training courses, educational seminars, and webinars for clients and internal offices
  • Research complex compliance issues and translate them into clear, practical guidance for non-legal audiences
  • Create and maintain compliance alerts, newsletters, checklists, and marketing copy, and manage the regulatory content library
  • Monitor federal and state legal and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business and its clients
  • Support compliance projects for the company’s own employee benefit plans
  • Travel to partner agency locations and team meetings as needed

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
  • 7+ years of employee benefits compliance experience
  • Insurance brokerage experience, either in-house at a broker or at a law firm with a substantial practice advising employee benefits brokers
  • Deep knowledge of health and welfare plan regulation and the ability to give practical, risk-based advice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to large groups
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred

  • Experience building training programs or leading client-facing seminars
  • LLM in Employee Benefits or Taxation
  • Interest in using emerging technologies, including AI, to deliver compliance guidance
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
