Senior Underwriter / Program Leader – Senior Living (Greenfield)
We are seeking an entrepreneurial, market-facing Senior Underwriter / Program Leader to architect and launch our nationwide Senior Living & Long-Term Care MGA program from the ground up.
This is a true “greenfield” opportunity. You will not be inheriting a static renewal book or working inside a rigid, pre-existing corporate box. Instead, you will have the autonomy and corporate backing to design underwriting guidelines, leverage carrier capacity, and build a premier profitable book targeting Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), Assisted Living Facilities (ALF), Independent Living, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC).
The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise across Professional Liability (PL) and General Liability (GL) within the healthcare space, coupled with the broker relationships necessary to drive immediate submission flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Architecture: Design, implement, and continuously refine the underwriting philosophy, risk appetite, rating models, and policy forms for the new Senior Living practice.
- Risk Selection & Execution: Utilize full underwriting authority to evaluate, price, and bind complex healthcare risks, balancing aggressive premium growth with strict loss-ratio profitability.
- Carrier & Capacity Management: Serve as the technical point of contact for frontline carrier partners, ensuring absolute compliance with delegated authority guidelines and program audits.
- Distribution & Originating Flow: Lean on your existing network of retail brokers and specialized wholesalers to establish immediate distribution channels and brand awareness for the new facility.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor legal, regulatory, and tort environments affecting long-term care facilities to proactively adjust underwriting appetites and pricing structures.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 7–10 years of dedicated commercial underwriting experience strictly focused on Senior Living, Long-Term Care, or Allied Healthcare lines. MGA/Program manager experience is highly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of Professional Liability (PL) and General Liability (GL) coverage forms, claims-made vs. occurrence triggers, and creative risk-structuring (deductibles, SIRs, excess layers).
- The “Greenfield” Mindset: Proven track record of launching a new program, expanding a territory, or significantly scaling a niche book of business with minimal oversight.
- Relationships: An active, clean network of retail and wholesale producers who specialize in placing healthcare and long-term care risks.
- Education/Designations: Bachelor’s degree preferred; industry designations (e.g., CPCU, RPLU, ASLI) are a significant plus.
