Controller, Insurance Retail Brokerage

Our client, a large rapidly growing insurance broker headquartered in New York is seeking a Controller to work out of any of their office.

The position will provide top quality and timely assistance to ensure accuracy and will be responsible for but not limited to the below listed responsibilities. As well as to assist in handling miscellaneous activities as needed in the day-to-day operations of their Services Accounting Department.

  • Added value resources (toolbox) – Claims, Loss Control, Compliance and Construction/MGA
  • Staff – 200+

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for daily management of Property & Casualty Aged receivables, company payables, and direct bill commission activity along with accurate record keeping.
  • Reconciliation of sub ledgers on weekly/monthly basis, understanding of individual Producer compensation agreement
  • Responsible for month-end close including balancing of accounts receivable, company and Producer payables, intercompany journal entries and bank reconciliation
  • Create financial statements as needed for upper management.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports.
  • Assist department Managers with budgeting.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed to maintain internal controls.
  • Assist with billing and tax documentation preparation.
  • Answer Producer questions regarding commissions.
  • Collaborating with the IT department to maintain financial records and system processes.
  • Assist external accountants with periodic questions and year-end review.
  • Oversee/assist with accounting in other HIS agencies.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices
  • Experience within the insurance or financial services industries
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong team player
  • Strong analytical skills and critical attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA a plus
