General Counsel – Rapidly Growing Real Estate Finance Platform – Remote
Position Summary
The General Counsel will serve as the lead legal resource supporting lending and transactional activities, with primary responsibility for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating loan documentation associated with complex real estate financing transactions. This individual will partner closely with business stakeholders to support deal execution, manage legal risk, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations while helping scale legal infrastructure to support organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate loan and transaction documentation related to real estate financing activities, including bridge loans, term loans, and investor-focused rental loan products
- Provide legal guidance to lending, underwriting, servicing, and capital markets teams
- Advise internal stakeholders on regulatory compliance, legal risk, and transactional best practices
- Assist in developing standardized documentation, policies, and procedures to improve operational efficiency
- Supervise and support paralegal staff and manage workflow across legal support functions
- Coordinate with outside counsel on specialized legal matters when necessary
- Support new product development and strategic business initiatives
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting real estate lending and investment financing
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of legal experience with exposure to commercial lending, real estate finance, or structured finance transactions
- Experience drafting and negotiating loan documentation and related financing agreements, preferably involving products such as bridge or term lending structures
- Strong ability to deliver practical, business-oriented legal advice
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring legal support staff is a plus
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
